Suri's 5th Birthday Bash

My daughters dream was to be a princess on her special day. yes, like most little girls dream to be princesses, Fairies, mermaids,or ballerinas. I made sure to take the time between all the hectic workdays in the bakery and running a family to plan and create this special day for my now big five year old, who already lost two teeth! My daughter knew exactly what she wanted to wear and made sure her li'l sis was to be part of all the fun. We also had Pnina, from faceart by Pnina, who did a wonderful job painting faces, her work is amazing, real art! And what a party it was.... Enjoy the pics!

Apple Cinnamon French Macarons

The Jewish new year is approaching and so are the holidays and the beautiful season of fall. When I think about these upcoming days a feeling of nostalgia and warmth envelope my mind. The time of year where cold weather and comfort food come together. The Aroma of warm baked apples, hot soup, etc. in other words, food that comfort the soul. My latest creation of cinnamon apple macarons was inspired by this wonderful time of year. I used fresh Fuji and McIntosh apples to create the filling. It's sort of biting into a piece of apple pie, yet in a confectionery version. Wishing all a Happy and Sweet New Year. I always say: The year should be as sweet as the thousands of pounds of sugar used in the bakery :) XOXO -EstyCookie

My Daughters Ballerina Birthday Bash

My daughter just turned four years old. Time really does fly. She is all into the ballerina thing, and loving ballet. I didn't think I would really have the time to set up a major birthday party, but she did not stop talking about what she wants and I could not let her down. I must say, the preps ended up being a great enjoyment and I guess something fun to look forward to. I did cupcake design with the kids to help keep them entertained. Hopefully I'll get to post a few more pictures of those. Enjoy these for now!

It's been a while since I've written. The days and weeks run by so quickly, I have completely lost track of time. Let me tell ya', it's good to be busy! The cold winter has finally arrived. I'm surely looking forward to some snow. It's the time to snuggle into cozy sweats... and sip some nice warm hot chocolate. Anyway, back to some news at the bakery! We now sell individual clear cupcake boxes. Perfect for favors, gift giving and showers. See some of the pictures below! Happy winter to all!!!

Rainbow Cupcakes

I LOVE rainbow cookies. Love them. They have been my favorite since I was a kid, and they still are. Perfect and colorful with layers of jam and dipped in chocolate. How could they be better? How about if they were cupcakes? A good friend of mine told me she had made a cupcake version, and I just had to try them, the Whimsical Way, of course.

Rainbow Cupcakes- with credit to Zissy W!

Preheat oven to 350

2 1/2 Cups Flour

1 1/2 Cups sugar

1 Tablespoon, plus 1 teaspon baking powder

2 tablespoon vanilla sugar

3/4 cup oil

1 cup orange juice

2 eggs

food coloring

Mix the dry ingredients together. Add the liquids and mix well.Divide the batter into three parts. With food coloring, color one part red, one part green and one part yellow. Line a muffin tray with cupcake liners. Using a small scoop, place one scoop of each color in the cupcake liners.(DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE ORDER OR THE PATTERN; IT ALL WORKS OUT DURING THE BAKING STAGE). Continue filling the liners with remaining colors. Bake for 25 minutes. Allow to cool. Decorate them with whipped cream, sprinkles , Jam or chocolate ganache.

To fill cupcake with jam: Take a melon scooper and scoop out the center of the cupcake and fill with rasberry jam or jelly

RECIPE FOR CHOCOLATE GENACHE:

1 cup whipped topping 1 tbsp light corn syrup Pinch salt 8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped In a small saucepan combine the cream, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Remove the pan from the heat, add the chocolate, and let stand for about 3 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Use right away.

I'ts been a while, it's been a while.

The past few months at Whimsical Confections were very hectic. With the passing of Valentines day, Purim and loads of classes, I finally had the time to sit down and write about these hectic, yet exciting days at the bakery.

Purim is one of those holidays where lots people really work hard to have it all in theme! The dress ups, gift giving (Mishloach Manos) and all the rest.

One of my favorites was the Portable radio cookies. My husband and I couldn't help it but use them as play phones, talking into the cookies as if they were real! ( Brrrrrr. I'm on the way unit 24! (Brrrrrrr....

10-4 unit 24, it's a COOKIE emergency!)

Mid Winter Vacation Cookie Demo Break :)

My Daughters 3rd Birthday

My daughters actual birthday is on the 6th of January, I didn't want to make the party in midst of the week. All the kids would come to the party acting like zombies and falling asleep in midst of the fun.. So I decided sunday, no school day, would be perfect. I didn't think this pary was going to happen, until I actually saw everything set up and my guests started arriving. The main entertainment we had was the facepainter. Her name is Pnina also at http://www.faceartbypnina.com/ , she did a fabulous job painting all the kids faces. I almost was ready to paint mine, but had to prep for a Cookie design class right after the party...It would be a pity to wash away the painting that would make me feel like a kid again :) Enjoy the pics!

So this weekend I was invited to display my handmade goods at a community get together. It was a great opportunity for me and I did it.

I could not stop laughing when at least a dozen people strolled by my table with a quick wink.. and two minutes later they were back at the table, asking .... are these stuff REAL???????? Yups all edible and handmade and forget about taste!!! They could not get enough!

How To Decorate Sugar Cookie Leaves

I love making these sugar shapes, and my daughter loves it too! This is a fun cookie project anyone can do at home. You will need:

sugar cookie dough
some shallow, mold-type cookie cutters
a bit of corn syrup or agave syrup
colored decorating or "sanding" sugar
some edible powdered pigment (found at specialty baking shops)
cheap vodka or extract of your choice
tiny paintbrush
some small bowls or cups

1/ Roll out your dough and punch out your shapes. 2/ Trim the edges by hand or with a knife. Bake until golden, remove and let cool. 3/ Mix a bit of pigment with the vodka or extract. This mixture makes a bold line, evaporates quickly and won't make your cookie soggy. 4/ Carefully paint on any area you want to stand out. Use the shape of the cookie as a guide, or make it up as you go along. 5/ Put some of the syrup in a dish cup. It can be very sticky! 6/ With a clean brush, apply some syrup to the top surface of the painted cookie, either all over, or just where you want the sugar to go. Pour the sugar into a bowl and use a small plastic dose cup or paper cup to generously scoop up sugar and sprinkle it over the cookie. 7/ Gripping the cookie on the sides, turn it upside-down and give it a shake to remove excess. (Like glitter and glue!) It should be evenly coated and beautiful. Let them dry a couple of hours before packing or serving. Try this: The yellow cookie in the picture below has two different yellow sugars on it, a lighter one in the middle and a deeper one at the sides to create a kind of fade. Experiment to create new effects! And of course if you don't have the time to make these yourself, or are looking for other fall themed cookies, you can always order some from a Whimsical Professional... Enjoy!

Last night I did a cookie demo for a couple of people at a party. Everyone was like wow! It's funny how I'm always nervous before doing a demo in front of lots of people, and yet once I start the nervous devil leaves me behind. I really get a great satisfaction by showing people my edible art creations and sharing my skills. The picture above is a Whimsical "Thank You" Gift Set.

I'm new to all this blogging. I guess I'll start enhancing my writing skills a bit.

Today I baked a few dozen cookies. I'ts funny how I almost never taste my own cookies. I have to say from time to time the delicous aroma engulfing my surroundings, urge me to nibble one, two or even three of them. Some might enjoy them with a glass of freezing milk. I enjoy them my cookies ( yes, the ones that I almost never taste) with a HUGE mug of coffee.

I am working on the gift set items. I'm sure they'll be a hit. I'm trying to cover every single occasion. I think these will be great for gift giving. Whether it's for a baby shower, engagement, or even a proposal!

So long, I've got to finish icing the cookies i've started.
